DEVELOPING THE SAFETY MENTALITY

DEVELOPING THE SAFETY MENTALITY
Very often in man’s life, his action(s) is guided by the end result (what benefit the action will bring). Most times the more the benefit, even on a temporary basis, the stronger the zeal of man towards the objective. So in the kingdom of man, where man rules over himself and other living creatures, one can categorically said that every step man takes depends on his expectations. This is so true, even with safety matters. That is why you should develop the safety mentality.
Safety is the act of being safe. It is freedom from risk and harm, a loss control situation. This means accident prevention, i.e. the safe guarding of human life and property.
The safety of a place can only be possible if the human factor is in check. Although, total safety is not attainable, steps must continually be taken to reduce the human factor to an absolute minimum. This is where you and I come in. Since attaining SAFETY is our concern, the desire of the people to work safely becomes paramount. Therefore, we should obey safety rules and regulations with regards to day to day living (on the job safety, home safety, traffic safety).
To get “WHAT IS IN IT (safety) FOR YOU”, we have to be safety conscious. The evaluation of self, with regards to safety matters on or off the job is one important way reducing unsafe acts; which is the violation of laid down and acceptable safe practices or procedures of work. There is always a safe way for every job.
Our safety responsibility therefore starts with us developing the safety mentality and safer attitude, which is thinking about the safety implication of our actions, what we consider the benefits before every step we take in life. We must imbibe the safety habit, see safety as a way of life and remain safety conscious at all times.
Life is good and sweet to only those who value life, and do the right thing at the right time. Life will be worth living, only if we appreciate the principle of give and take.
