TIPS ON HOW TO PREVENT CHILDREN FROMHOUSEHOLD HAZARDS
Hazards occur in the home on daily basis. Some of them are so devastating that they leave the victim either dead or permanently deformed. Here are some tips to prevent children from household hazards:
(I) Remember, a potentially harmful household item may look like a toy to child.
(II) Keep lighters, matches and other sources of fire out reach and out of sight from a child.
(III) Store cleaning supplies and chemicals in locked cabinets, and teach children that the hazard symbols on the containers mean “do not touch”.
(IV) Stay within arm’s reach of young children when they are in the bath tub, and never turn y back on them. Bath seats are not safety devices. They only make it easier for you to bath your child).
(V) Tie up blind cords so kids cannot reach them, even from nearby furniture.
(VI) Use baby gates at the top and bottom of stairs for children under 24 months of age. Use hardware-mounted gates at the top of stairs; they are more secure than pressure-mounted gates.
(VII) Double-check to make sure cribs, playpens, infant seats, baby gates and other products you have purchased have not been recalled. Call the manufacturer or check their website.
(VIII) Keep cords for electrical appliances out of reach from children.
(IX) Keep children away from stove and barbecue
(X) Put window guards on all windows on the second floor and above.
(XI) Make sure your swimming pools are enclosed by fencing that meets municipal requirements, and keep all doors to the pool locked. Always keep young children within arm’s reach when swimming.
Preventing children from household hazards is a must for every parents. Children are gifts from God. Parents should do all within their power to protect their children. Thus the above mentioned tips are very useful for parents. Prevention is always better, pocket friendly and stress free than cure.
